Managing and Leading a Youth Orchestra* (Continued from Tuesday.)
Community Engagement: What Does It Really Mean?* Our orchestras can, and should, be fully engaged members of our communities. What does this really mean, and what is the skill set required to establish and maintain meaningful relationships with all segments of our communities? How do we build respectful relationships that honor our own strengths and limitations and those of our potential partners? What are the requirements of stewardship necessary to sustain the work over time? And what do the qualities of successful partnership have to teach us about our own internal orchestra cultures?
Talking About the Tough Stuff* Facing the public during challenging times can tax even the most experienced leaders. Learn how to increase your ability to shape your message and shine in the most demanding public moments.
Teaching Artistry* Explore the attitudes, skills, and approaches that lead to success in an educational context – whether in a school setting, at a donor event, in the community, or in any other setting that draws on skills beyond performance alone. David Wallace, violist, teaching artist, and author of Reaching Out: A Musician’s Guide to Interactive Performance, and Sarah Johnson, oboist, teaching artist, and director of education at The Philadelphia Orchestra, will lead a hands-on workshop that will grow your skill, aptitude, and passion for teaching artistry. |
